SENIOR & GERIATRIC CARE

Senior & Geriatric Care

AS OUR PETS AGE, THEIR HEALTHCARE NEEDS BECOME MORE COMPLEX.

At our hospital, we believe that "old age" is not a disease, but a life stage that requires proactive management. Our senior care program is designed to detect age-related changes early, ensuring your pet remains comfortable, mobile, and happy well into their golden years.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BI-ANNUAL CHECK-UPS

For senior pets, health status can change rapidly. While younger pets are typically seen once a year, we recommend a "nose-to-tail" examination every six months for older patients.

Early Detection
Early Detection

These bi-annual visits allow us to identify subtle signs of heart disease, kidney issues, or cognitive changes before they become emergencies.

Weight & Nutrition
Weight & Nutrition

We monitor for age-related weight loss or gain and provide tailored nutritional advice to support aging joints and organs.

ADVANCED SENIOR DIAGNOSTICS

Because older pets are more likely to develop underlying conditions, we utilise our Veterinary Diagnostics hub to monitor their health from the inside out:

Senior Blood Screening
Our in-house lab provides instant results for kidney and liver function tests, which are essential for managing long-term medications or preparing for routine procedures.
Blood Pressure Monitoring
Just like humans, senior pets can suffer from hypertension. We use modern monitoring devices to track and manage blood pressure levels.
Urinalysis
A simple but vital tool for the early detection of diabetes and urinary tract issues.

MOBILITY & REHABILITATION

Maintaining mobility is one of the most important factors in a senior pet’s quality of life. Our facility includes dedicated areas designed specifically for rehabilitative care:

  • Physiotherapy & Hydrobath: We offer access to hydrobath facilities and a dedicated space for physiotherapy, helping to soothe aching joints and maintain muscle mass in geriatric patients.

  • Arthritis Management: From advanced medication protocols to environmental adjustments at home, we provide comprehensive plans to manage chronic pain and osteoarthritis.

SAFE CARE FOR OLDER PATIENTS

We take extra precautions when senior pets require treatment in the hospital:

  • Heated Recovery: Older pets struggle to regulate their body temperature, so we use heated hydraulic tables and warming facilities to keep them comfortable during procedures.

  • Tailored Anaesthesia: If surgery is required, our Surgical & Vital Monitoring allows us to customise anaesthesia protocols specifically for the needs of an older pet’s heart and lungs.

PALLIATIVE CARE & SUPPORT

When the focus shifts from cure to comfort, our team provides sensitive palliative care guidance. We help you navigate the complexities of end-of-life decisions, ensuring your pet’s dignity is maintained and their pain is managed until the very end.
